As director in our Corporate Recovery and Insolvency Department, Donovan specialises in insolvency related matters. He completed his BA Law and LL.B degrees at the University of the Free State in 1994 and 1996 respectively, and commenced with his articles in 1995 at EG Cooper & Sons. Donovan further obtained various certificates in insolvency and company law. Donovan joined Honey Attorneys as a director in 2016 and has been an invaluable member of our team ever since, where he has earned the utmost respect of his fellow directors as being a knowledgeable and hard-working practitioner.

Donovan’s extensive experience spans over a vast number of insolvency and business rescue cases as well as longstanding relationships with the country’s most prominent financial institutions positions him as a trusted advisor in the field. He brings a commercially astute approach to the winding-up of complex estates, having taken appointments in some of South Africa’s most challenging liquidations. His deep understanding of the Insolvency Act and Companies Act equips him to navigate the legal and strategic dimensions of insolvency with authority.

Serving as Chairperson of the Central Region of the South African Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners Association (SARIPA), he actively advances his passion for insolvency law and business restructuring, contributing both leadership and expertise to the profession.

In addition, Donovan is the current Chairperson of the Free State LPC, holds various professional memberships and has served in various capacities . He also lectures from time to time on Insolvency and Business Rescue as part of the compulsory Practical Vocational Training for Candidate Legal Practitioners.
